HD Image Acquisition

HD Image Acquisition mode is designed to capture high-resolution, high-definition textures of object surfaces. It uses a 48M camera to acquire 2D images, capturing subtle details such as color, patterns, and material reflections from the object's surface. This provides rich detailed data for subsequent 3D model texturing.

Shooting Requirements

Multi-Angle Shooting:

  • Assume the object is spherical, and capture images from three different viewing angles: 60° (top), 30° (middle), and 0° (base).

  • Images should have 30% to 70% overlap.

Prominent Subject: Place the object against a solid color background. The object should be centered in the photo and fill 50% to 70% of the image.

Number of Shots:

  • For general materials: Capture approximately 20–24 images per circle at each elevation level.
  • For reflective objects: Capture approximately 24–30 images per circle at each level to minimize reflection interference.

Caution

Do not repeatedly capture images from the same position and angle.

Clarity: Ensure every captured image is clear and sharp, without blurriness.

Add Featurues (Optional): If the object has simple texture features or symmetrical surfaces that are difficult to distinguish, you can add pads or temporary marks in non-critical areas. This helps to align textures.

Shooting Workflow

  1. From the home page, tap to create a new project or project groups, then select Capture HD Image.

    Note

    It's recommended to create a new project under the corresponding project group after scanning the object, and then select Capture HD Image. Therefore, you can export both scan data and images simultaneously.

  2. Read the guidance carefully before you start.

    Note

    If you need to review the guidance during the shooting process, you can tap in the lower left corner of the shooting interface at any time to view it again.

  3. Adjust shooting parameters according to the environment:

    • ISO (): Low ISO produces detailed images with less noise but requires more light; high ISO can achieve brighter images in low light conditions, but noise increases.
    • Exposure time (): A fast shutter speed can freeze motion and reduce shake, but it allows less light in; a slow shutter speed lets in more light, creating a motion blur effect, but it can easily result in a blurry image due to shake.
    • Close range: optimal distance 300 mm
    • Long distance: optimal distance 1000 mm
  4. Move the scanner closer to or further away from the subject according to the optimal distance indicated on the screen. Once the image is clear, press to take the shot.

    Caution

    The screen can be pinched to zoom.

  5. After shooting, you can transfer the images to your computer using the EXScan Libre software. Please refer to Data Transfer.

    Note

    It is recommended to use the BlueStar Mapping for texturing the model to achieve the best results. For license purchases, please contact Technical Support.

White Balance

  1. Tap to switch to white balance.

    Note

    • When shooting with ordinary materials in darker environments, it is recommended to turn on the fill light to enhance photo clarity; for reflective materials, it is advisable to turn off the fill light to avoid glare.
    • If the fill light is turned on, it will be enabled by default when capturing images; to turn off the fill light, you need to perform white balance again and turn off the fill light during the white balance process.
  2. Aim the texture camera at a white surface and tap to start the white balance.

    Note

    Do not move the device during the white balance process.
