Project Group

Project group is the standard file structure of the software. It contains one project or more. Each project contains the data of its own. You need to create or open a Project Group before scanning.

Create a Project Group

Two ways to create a project group:

Method One: Click New project group in the home screen interface.

Note

If you select IR Scan, set parameters such as scan mode and alignment mode when creating a new project group; for details, please see the Project Group Settings.

Method Two: Click and select New project group in the scanning interface.

Note

The project group created through method two is consistent with the scanning mode of the current interface's project group, and it is not possible to select Laser or IR scan modes.

In the prompt window, name the project group and click Browse to select the save path; then click Confirm and all scanned data will be saved to the folder with the name you just set.

Open a Project Group

You can open a project group and perform re-scanning or editing on the scanned data.

Opening a project group is supported in two ways: Local Import and Import from EXStar Mobile.

Local Import

Method One: On the home screen, select Open Project Group > Local Import, then in the prompt window select the project group file (or search for it) and click Open.

Method Two: Click and select Open Project Group in the scanning interface. The import steps are the same as above.

Note

  • The current project group will be saved automatically when opening a project group.
  • To rescan the imported project, use the same device that scanned the imported project.

Import from EXStar Mobile

Wireless Import

Before importing wirelessly, make sure the phone/tablet meets the following conditions:

  • It is connected to the same network as the computer.
  • EXStar Mobile is running and the Connect EXStar Hub page is displayed.

Then import the project group as follows:

  1. In the nearby devices list, select the phone/tablet to connect to; a connection is initiated automatically.

    Note

The list refreshes automatically every 10 seconds. You can also click to refresh manually.

  2. If this is the first connection to the device, the computer and the app display the same 4-digit verification code. Confirm the code on EXStar Mobile to complete the connection.

    Note

    • If the device has been connected before, no verification code is required and you can connect directly.
    • If the connection is not confirmed in the app within 60 seconds, it is canceled automatically.
  3. After the connection succeeds, a file browser opens automatically showing the project groups on the phone/tablet.

  4. In the file browser, select the project group to import, and transfer it to the computer.

    Note

The project group is saved to the location specified by Data Import Path in Settings. Click to change the save path.

  5. After the import is complete, click the close button in the upper-right corner of the file browser, then click Disconnect in the confirmation window to disconnect from the phone/tablet; click Cancel to keep the connection.

Note

  • All project groups on the app can be imported.
  • If the data of some sub-projects in the project group is abnormal, the point cloud/mesh cannot be previewed, and the point cloud/mesh/p3 files of those sub-projects cannot be downloaded, but they can still be imported to the computer.

Wired Import

Click EXStar Mobile Exporter. Once the software opens, click Help in the lower-left corner to view the tutorial.
